Kentucky survives in Columbia, defeats Missouri 3-1

Kentucky traveled to Columbia to take on Missouri in a mid-week series.

1st set

Kentucky with the first point of the set, Missouri right behind them. Kentucky takes the lead with another point, Missouri ties it up and the takes the lead, 4-2. Kentucky with a point and then for the next several it’s all Missouri as they take an 8-3 lead before Kentucky gets another point. Missouri doubles the score as they lead Kentucky 10-5. Tigers still lead but Kentucky has gained some momentum as they rally to pull within 15-12 as they got back to back points. Missouri with back to back points of their own, but Kentucky does the same, 17-14. Kentucky with a few to get within one of the Tigers in this set. Missouri takes the first set 25-23, ending a 12 set losing streak.

Missouri 1, Kentucky 0

2nd set

Early on Missouri had a 3-1 lead over Kentucky they now have a 9-3 advantage over the Wildcats. Missouri maintains their lead over the Cats but Kentucky finally catches up enough to tie up the game, but Missouri has an answer going up 22-20. Kentucky finally takes the lead and it’s back and forth set points between Kentucky and Missouri, we are up to 30-30. With 14 ties and 6 lead changes Kentucky goes for yet another set point and wins set 2 with a 35-33 score.

Missouri 1, Kentucky 1

3rd set

Kentucky gets the first two points and then it’s back and forth but they tie up several times, but Kentucky maintains a lead late into the set. Kentucky takes the third set with a 25-20 win over Missouri.

Kentucky 2, Missouri 1

4th set

Missouri starts the fourth, but Kentucky answers and then goes on a 5-0 run late in the set leading 16-12. Kentucky defeats Missouri 25-18 to win the match 3-1.

The Cats move to 3-0, Missouri falls to 2-1.

Kentucky and Missouri go at it again tomorrow night at 9 p.m. ET on ESPNU.
