Kentucky is coming off an 86-60 win over Murray State, the team led by Chasity Patterson’s 30 points. Patterson and several other players stepped up in the 86-60 win over the Lady Racers in star player Rhyne Howard and Tatyana Wyatt’s absences as they are both serving suspensions.
Sunday’s game will be Howard’s last game to miss as she was suspended for two, the Lady Wildcats next two games Wyatt is still to miss as she was suspended for three. Tatyana Wyatt violated the team’s policy and Rhyne Howard did not uphold the team’s program. Head Coach Kyra Elzy announced their suspensions hours before their season opener.
Kentucky hosts the 4 time defending OVC regular season champs, Belmont in what will be an early test for these Wildcats at Memorial Coliseum. Sunday marks the season opener for the Bruins. It will also be the sixth overall meeting between Kentucky and Belmont, where Kentucky is 4-1 overall, and 3-1 at Memorial Coliseum. It marks just the third time they have met since 1988. The last meeting was on March 17, 2017 at Memorial where the Cats got a 73-70 win in the first round of the 2017 NCAA Tournament, the Bruins only win was on February 21, 1976 where they claimed a 75-60 win.
