Kentucky welcomes Tubby Smith home; to retire jersey in his honor

Orlando “Tubby” Smith was the head coach for Kentucky from 1997-2007. During his time at Kentucky he led the Cats to one National title in 1998, a  perfect 16-0 regular conference record in 2003, five SEC regular season titles, adn 5 SEC tournament titles. During his tenure the Cats appeared in  six Sweet Sixteens, and four Elite Eights. After ten seasons at  Kentucky Tubby Smith would move on to coach Minnesota for 6 seasons, then onto Texas Tech for just 3 seasons, Memphis for two, and is currently the head coach for High Point since 2018. 

Kentucky will host Tubby Smith and his High Point team tomorrow as Kentucky closes out their regular season. To honor Tubby Smith for his career and dedication, he will have a jersey retired in his honor becoming the 44th jersey lifted into the rafters. The jersey retirement ceremony will happen at 11:40 a.m. ET at Rupp Arena.
